A ‘telecom visionary’ according to Marie Claire magazine and vocal advocate for gender and cultural diversity in the tech industry, Ms. Brigitte Daniel is the Executive Vice President of Wilco Electronic Systems, Inc., her family’s African-American privately owned cable operation. For over 30 years, Wilco has provided affordable cable and technology services to low-income communities as well as commercial, governmental, and educational institutions, in Philadelphia.
Over the last few years, Ms. Daniel has helped create several substantial private/public partnerships that provide innovative solutions to address the digital divide within communities in the United States, and thus, position Wilco as a digital and broadband leader, specifically working on behalf of disadvantaged communities.
A 2011 Eisenhower Fellowship recipient, Brigitte traveled to India, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia to explore and cultivate global relationships in developing emerging technologies to serve and benefit underserved and low-income marketplaces in Philadelphia. In addition, Brigitte is currently serving her second term on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Federal Advisory Committee on Diversity in the Digital Age.
In June 2014, Brigitte was recognized as one of the 7 Brilliant Women in Tech according to Craigslist founder Craig Newmark, was recently featured in Marie Claire magazine as one of three profiles in its “Mogul Maintenance” column, a part of the @Work section for the September 2014 issue, and just launched an initiative called Mogulette, a program centered around educating, mentoring and empowering young women of color, between the ages of 20-25 interested in careers in entrepreneurism within technology.
Ms. Daniel graduated from Spelman College in 1999 and additionally received her JD from Georgetown University Law School. In 2011, Ms. Daniel received the Business Journal’s “40 under 40″. In 2012, she was honored to receive the Philadelphia’s Business Journal’s Minority Leaders Award and a 2012 Women Leaders In Technology Award from the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women. In 2013, Ms. Daniel received a 2013 Women In Cable and Telecommunications Rising Star Award, a Next Generation of Leaders award through the office of Philadelphia Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown, a “10 under 40” award from the Philadelphia Tribune, and lastly a 2013 Paragon Legacy Award from the Philadelphia chapter of the National Association of Multi-Ethnicity In Communications (NAMIC).
Ms. Daniel is committed to giving back to the community and spends a significant amount of time serving as a Board Director of the Philadelphia Theatre Company, Congreso de Latinos, and the Independence Charter School.
